Need to restore deleted files?  When important files are erased accidentally, the tendency of many is to freak out and panic.  But don’t worry, your files are still there in your computer’s hard drive.  There are now reliable and inexpensive tools available so you can totally restore your deleted files.

Knowing Where Your Deleted Files Went

To restore deleted files, the first thing to know is where your deleted files have gone.  For windows-based systems, files deleted from the hard disk go directly to the recycle bin and stay there unless it is emptied.  Exceptions are deletions from memory cards and other external memory media devices.

It is easy to restore deleted files from the recycle bin.  Just go to the Recycle Bin folder, select the files you want to recover, right-click and then choose restore from the pop-up menu.   The files are then restored back to their original folder in one piece.

Restore Deleted Files That Are Deleted From the Recycle Bin

The real challenge is to restore deleted files that have already been emptied from the recycle bin.  Contrary to what many people think, files emptied from the recycle bin are not totally removed from the system.  They are still located in certain sectors of the main hard drive, but are not accessible through normal means.

Before you can restore deleted files it is important to understand what a partition is.  Basically, a partition is a framework of your hard drive which defines the system for data storage.  Files or partitions that have been deleted from the hard drive are not really deleted physically, only the location markers of the files are.  In such cases, data recovery software is ideally suited to restore your deleted files.  To learn more about partitions see our article entitled, “FAT Recovery Software.”
